REACH OUT AND READ
This year GANHS is getting involved in a new service project to promote early childhood literacy. The program, “Reach Out and Read,” is a national nonprofit organization focused on promoting the love of reading through pediatric care. The organization provides age appropriate books for doctors to give each child at their pediatric check-ups from 6 months to 5 years old. “Reach Out and Read” also trains the doctors and nurses to impress upon parents the importance of reading to their children. Over 4,535 ROR programs can be found in health facilities across the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, Virgin Islands, and the District of Columbia. This organization is able to serve 3.8 million children and distribute 6 million books each year. “Reach Out and Read” is an exciting organization for GANHS to get involved in and there are many ways each chapter can help. ROR needs volunteers, financial contributions, and most importantly books. To find out more about “Reach Out and Read” and locate the program closest to your school, visit the website, www.reachoutandread.org.
